Were You Cleopatra’s Leg Waxer?

Lately my intuition has been nudging me to offer some past life readings.  Past life readings can offer insights where a reaction of extreme fear, pain, phobia or other issues arise suddenly in your life, that seem disproportionate to the triggering cause.

**To promote past-life readings, this month new email subscribers who sign up at the top of this blog in the blue box (and any existing subscriber who refers someone new), are eligible to win a free past-life reading. See the bottom of this post for details.  The promotional price for any past-life readings booked in March is $60 (regular price is $95).**

Was that Really Me?

While past-life readings are fascinating, my struggle in the past with these readings has always been about wanting to be able to prove that they are “correct”, with some kind of external validation, which is really not possible.

However people who have received past-life readings from me, have felt a tangible connection to the information from their past lives. While the reactions have not been extreme, it seems more like most describe a subtle knowing, as if it there is a dawning of a faint glimmer that was buried deep within their unconscious.

People who have had past life readings feel a resonance between the past life and their present life.  It is almost like they can sense an echo of that former life in their present life. These validations have varied from a tingly feeling in the body, to an “aha!” about why that have had an affinity for a certain landscape, or a “knowing” about why they have always inexplicably been attracted to a certain way of life.  There has always been some reminder in their current life which confirms a resonance to a past life.

I don’t do past life readings just so that you can be amazed that you were Cleopatra’s leg waxer. Sure it might be interesting to have that proximity to a famous historical figure.  But more importantly that peeking back into that time for novelty’s sake, is knowing whether you mastered the lessons you were supposed to be learning in that lifetime. And just so you know, most people I’ve read for have been normal people living normal lives in their times…

How Can A Past Life Help Me Now?

I only do past-life readings for practical reasons. Sure it might be fascinating to observe the fashions in Salem right during your witch trial, but those things are not really helpful to you now.

The reason for going back to a past life is to help you progress and heal yourself from past trauma.  It is to assist you in releasing anything left unresolved so you can move past it in this life. What happened that you ended up being branded a witch? How does that affect you in your life now?  Do those issues keep you from living up to your highest potential?

When doing a past-life reading for you, I ask to be taken back to your most relevant past life.  I ask to bring back information for you about a life that caused you to bring any unfinished business into this life. (Since there may be more than one, I asked about the most relevant lesson for you.) The purpose of doing this type of reading, is to help you release anything that may be holding you back from your full potential in this life.

What have other people found out? Here are a few examples:

-       A fishwife in 18th century England, abandoned by her sailor love, repeating in this life her pattern of believing her happiness would only be in the future, and not valuing what she had in the present.

-       A priest in ancient Egypt who witnessed his fellow priests killing the King/God, resulting in the woman in this life into being torn between her sense of duty and the truth of her experience of reality.

-       A young noblewoman in 17th century America, who was burned by her community at the stake, for claiming to be able to communicate with God, causing a man to have extreme fear in this life of revealing that he is an intuitive.

All of these people were able to acknowledge that they felt these past lives rang true for them.  All were able to see the issue brought back for them had a relevance for them, and that addressing the old issue would allow them to move forward and progress with their lives.

Do you have an inkling that you have a lingering issue from a past life?  Something that has never quite made logical sense to you?

Climb Out Of Your Hole!

Down in a hole, feelin’ so small, down in a hole, losin’ my soul,
I’d like to fly, but my wings have been so denied…~ Alice In Chains

For the past week, it felt like nothing was working out for me.  Work seemed overwhelming, finances tight, the kids were sick, my husband’s business deal was foundering, and I was waiting to hear about some work.  To top it off, I was sick too and nothing seemed to help me recover.  It didn’t help that the doldrums of winter were upon us, a time often difficult enough to get through itself despite anything else happening.

I felt like I had fallen into a deep hole, and I didn’t know how to get out.

It was very tempting to just lay and bed and cry about how things would never get better.  But I knew from past experience that as hard as it was, that wasn’t really going to help me.  I knew that I would have to go inside myself and find my own resources to get out of this deep hole.

It is easy when we are over-tired, and sick to just lose faith and just give up entirely.  Things can seem very bleak, and you wonder if things will ever change. Often in these times we feel unsupported and alone.  Alternating fatigue and hopelessness can turn into a vicious cycle, where the loss of faith and fatigue leads to further hopelessness, and on and on.

If we want to get out of the hole, we must go within. While I am in this state, even contemplating going within, always seems to be the hardest thing to do.  But from all the times I have ever been in this state, I know that going within is the only key to getting out of the hole.

Here are the steps that got me back on track:

  1. Conserve your resources.

Look after yourself first.  This is very hard to remember when you are already exhausted.  But you have to go right back to the basics of looking after yourself.  Are you hungry? Are you over-tired? Do you need to play?  Listen to your body, and eat, nap and play.

Overextending yourself?  You are in triage mode now, so bow out as gracefully as you can.  Cancelling one social date, or volunteer commitment is not a big deal.

Need to take a sick day, even though the work is piled up to the ceiling?  I’m giving you permission.  If you don’t recover you won’t be able to do the work anyways.  Once your body is feeling better, things look brighter, and less challenging.

2. Call for help!

Phone a friend.  I have trouble remembering that I have friends when I am down in a hole.  But friends are very important during this time.

Friends serve as mirrors to you of your state, and will give you affirmation that you do need to take care of yourself.  Even if you have no love for yourself, they can lend you their love for you.  They can remind you of all the reasons why your life is good.  All of these things will raise your vibration, and get you closer to climbing out of the hole.

Make sure you remember to call them.

3. Continue to trust in Spirit.

This is a hard one to do, particularly when you are feeling hopeless, and feel like nothing is going your way.  You might even be angry at Spirit for not helping you fulfill your desires.  The first step is surrendering to your circumstances, and asking Source for help. Once this request is out there, keep your eyes peeled for answers — they are on their way.

The next step is being grateful for what you have. Look around yourself, and even if it seems insincere at first, start expressing your thanks for everything around you.  Whatever brings you the least bit of happiness, use it to remind yourself of what you have, and to leverage yourself into a higher vibration.

Is the sun warming your face? Be grateful for that.  Did you see a photo that made you smile? Be grateful for all these small things, and gradually it will be easier to become aware of and grateful of the big things you have going for you.

4. Listen to your intuition

Try to heed your intuitive urges even if they are very quiet, and especially if your stress and worry has cut you off from them.  Once I had recommitted to trusting Source, even though my trust was low, it was amazing how quickly “little” things started coming into my path.

A dear friend called with just the right message (thanks Heather!).  I stumbled across blog posts which reminded me what I needed to do. Within a day of my surrender and request to the Source, I was able to find the resources I needed to finally pull me out of the hole.

Colette Baron-Reid, calls this emotional place “the Barren Desert” in her book “The Map”, and describes it in her most recent blog post here.  She advises tapping into the power of your internal reality by comparing it with the characteristics of a desert.

“What wisdom can you glean from the attributes of this environment? If you find you’re in the desert in your life, you must conserve your energy rather than squander it mindlessly on worry and negativity. Savor what you have and practice gratitude for every drop of goodness. You might have to dig deep to get to the nourishment and insight you need, but it’s there…Even though it seems endless, you will eventually leave the desert. If you have courage and continue to be resourceful, you will thrive. You must trust in Spirit; no matter your outer circumstances, the sun is still shining bright upon you!”

I’m so glad that you are here if you needed to be reminded of this too.

Don’t forget that I can also help you get back in touch with your intuition, if you have lost touch with it.  If you want help determining the next easiest step for you to take, I am happy to give a virtual hand hold while we get you back with your intuition!

Climbing out of your hole can be much easier and gentler than you think, especially when I can support you.  Email me at conduitofjoy@hotmail.com, and we’ll work together to get you out of your hole, and back on your path.

And if I happen to fall into the hole unexpectedly again, I’ll just be able to read this post, instead of sadly stumbling around in the bottom of hole for awhile…

Happy Grounding Day!

Who is this little fella you ask? Why it’s the noble groundhog, who surprisingly we celebrate once a year - today- on February 2, Groundhog Day.

He is here to help you and I to remember how to ground.  I’ve been getting a lot of nudges about my need to ground, which is something that I “know” that I need to do, but that I sometimes forget.

What is grounding? The below explanation is a good one, because it stresses the balance aspect of grounding.

“Grounding is the process by which we maintain an appropriate energy charge by releasing any energy which would constitute an excessive charge within the systems of the body, emotions, mind, etc. (By analogy, our home’s electrical circuits are grounded to dismiss the extra electricity.)”

Just like electricity in your house, you’ve got to balance the energies within your body or you will short out, just like the fuses in your house.

So in a nutshell, for your subtle energy systems, grounding is pretty much any activity that brings your energies back into alignment. This usually means you must balance your upper chakra energies with your lower chakra energies, which are tied to earth energy.

Why do we need to ground? Because our lives are all about BALANCE.

We need a balance of all of our chakras’ energies to function optimally. If we spend too much time at certain energy vibrations without being in balance with all, our bodies and our minds get really out of whack.

Being ungrounded can especially be a problem for intuitives, or those who spent a lot of time in intellectual pursuits. These types of peoples are comfortable hanging around in the upper parts of their bodies, like their third eyes, and inside their heads, but may not pay much attention to their bodies or the world around them.

The problem is that intuition and intellect which is not grounded becomes wonky. A little ungroundedness can feel like spaciness, or head-fuzz, headaches or lack of concentration. But if your intuition becomes really ungrounded it can affect your personality, make you paranoid, or feel like you are in a daze all the time. Your physical symptoms might include stress, anxiety and not being able to feel parts of your body.

In short, when you are really out of balance your intuition can become UNRELIABLE. And if it is your main guidance system that is not good.

How do you ground? To ground you can do anything that brings you back into alignment with your first two chakras (basic physical security/emotions). This usually involves being aware of being present in your body. Good “no-brainer” grounding activities are:

 1. Sex – If you aren’t in your body during sex, you are doing something wrong. Plus it is free and fun.

2. Eating (particularly protein) – This is a good instant fix for emergencies, but it is easy to become overweight if you aren’t grounding in other ways.

3. Exercise – This naturally brings you back into your body, and makes you aware of all the parts of your body.

4. Cleaning your house – Cleaning gets you into your body, (plus it makes you happy because your house is clean).

Other good grounding techniques are things which help tie you to earth energies:

5. Being in nature – Walking or any other activities in a park, ravine or anywhere else you are surrounded by trees, grass, and animals are excellent grounders.

6. Hug a tree – I know this is repeating number 4, but it’s an easy fix.

7. Bathing/swimming – Again, bathing brings you right back into your body and helps you remember you exist on Earth.

8. Bare feet on earth – It gets your body energy directly in touch with earth energy, literally.

Another grounding category is doing visualizations of yourself connecting with Earth energies. There are lots of good grounding meditations, but here are a couple of quickies:

9. Put on a bonnet – Picture yourself wearing an old-fashioned bonnet which is bringing your higher chakras down into your head. Then tie it under your chin. You have just brought your higher chakra energies back in.

10. Remember your root – Imagine your root joining you to the Earth’s energies, is coming out the bottom of your spine. Whenever you breathe in, breathe in the higher chakra energies in through the top of your head, through your body and down through your root which goes into the Earth. Picture your root advancing deeper and deeper down through the layers of earth until your root is deeply tapped in.

Don’t Let This Happen To You

When we become unbalanced, sometimes our guides have to use a harsh physical signs, to help us get back into balance, if we can’t get there ourselves. Let me use myself as a recent example.

Last weekend, I spent alot of time expanding my intuitive abilities and also doing a lot of intellectual, planning types of activities with my husband about his new business. This meant I was spending a lot of time in my upper chakras (consciousness/third eye/communication), and not much time in my lower chakras.

It felt good to feel “high” and happy, but I wasn’t paying much attention to eating or exercise, or my daily routine of spritzing with salt water.

So last night while bathing my kids, it was apparently decided that I needed a “slap upside the head” about getting back into my body. The shower rod came down and whacked me in the back of the head.

I was back in my body immediately, focusing on the pain in my head. I literally couldn’t ignore my body anymore. I had to pay lots and lots of attention to how my body felt. I had to stop and rest and think about my body.

Today I am still a little fuzzy-headed, but I am now paying attention again as to how I need to be grounding consciously every day. (Please guides don’t whack me again, I’ll try and remember this time. Please remind me next time in a more gentle fashion, I promise to listen.) Thanks to Lisa, for helping me “remember” this lesson.

Grounding is a key to successfully using your intuition. You must keep all of your energies in balance for your intuition to be reliable and useful to you. No chakra is more important than another. They must all be functioning for you to be successful as a human.

Don’t be as oblivious as me, pain as a grounding technique is effective but not very enjoyable. I have now posted notes all around myself reminding me to ground every day. I’ve committed to some daily exercise, and I have a photo of my groundhog posted right by my desk.

Happy Grounding Day!

Kara

Beauty is the Antidote

The city of Venice is renowned for its legendary beauty.  A gilded dream of a city,  created in a lagoon, battling rising water levels and decaying yearly, it’s mere existence is fantastical.  I fell hard for its stunning beauty when I was lucky enough to visit for short time.

Venice is jewel-box of a place.  I already knew that I was a sucker for baroque beauty, but I had no idea how much I would find in Venice.  The buildings are beautiful, the gondolas are beautiful, everything in the shops is beautiful, and the people are beautiful.   (There are a few unpleasant things here, but it really is beautiful…)

I spent all my time drinking in the beauty of Venice with all my senses.  While I had seen photos of Venice before, I found my personal experience there like being drenched in an exotic, heady perfume of beauty.  I touched exquisite Murano glass beads, I feasted my eyes on gilded rococo fixtures and elaborate masquerade masks. I listened to the silence of a place with no cars and only waves.  I smelled the ocean so intimately accessed, I listened to the laughter of people enjoying themselves on the streets.

My soul was nourished by all this beauty.  It is usually nature’s beauty that restores me, but Venice reminded me of the miracle of beauty that is expressed when man creates some beautiful thing just from his own imagination.

Man’s ability to create beauty is surely one of the finest things about being a human being.  Creating beauty is one of our highest callings; really it is the living of our purpose to honour our Creator.

I suggest remembering this beauty of creation, as the antidote to the winter blahs.

 *                     *                      *                      *                     *                   *

In the spirit of celebrating the creative spark, I was honored in December, by the lovely effervescent Patti, at Light Spirited Being who awarded me the “Beautiful Blogger” award.  She truly has a beautiful, sparkly soul!  Her blog shares so freely of herself, and I resonate with her philosophies deeply, and appreciate her insights.

As a condition of receiving this award, I have been asked to:

  -   Share 7 things about me that you probably don’t know

  -    Pass the award on to 5 other beautiful bloggers

Here are…7 Things You May Not Know About Me

1. I lived in rural Africa for two years with my family when I was a kid.  I used to live in the middle of “nowhere”, and it was great.  We had lots of exciting adventures just living our daily lives.  Exotic illnesses? Yes! Participating in fascinating traditional tribal ceremonies nearby?  Yes!  Elephants attacking our lorry at the game park? Yes!  Living in a little town with mud huts and lots of friendly people? Yes!  Going to see what the “witch doctor” had prepared for that week? Yes!

 2. I love South America, and someday I would like to live there with my family.  I loved spending some time in South America, and I would love to go back. Fascinating cultures? Incan ruins? Beautiful climates? Jungle and ocean? Spanish speakers? The love of dance and music?  What’s not to love…

 3. I used to have a horse.  I have always loved all kinds of animals since I was a little girl.  I wanted to be a marine biologist when I was little, and always had many pets. I can often spot animals in the wild easily, even if they are hidden to the naked eye.  I still love animals, even though I only have my dog living with me currently (if you don’t count my kids).  This connection with animals is what allows me to do readings for them.

4. I have double-jointed elbows.  Is that something that you wanted to know?   Maybe not.  But you’ll never be able to twist my arm…

 5. Singing is my soul’s happiness.  I have always been a singer, ever since I was a little girl.  Singing has always been something that my soul just wanted to do, that made me so happy.  ( I noticed some transcendent experiences while singing as I got older.)  After having kids and getting time crunched, I haven’t sung much since.  Occasionally I still sing in my car or to my kids.  My favourite types of music to sing are baroque music, and folky/soft-rocky tunes.  I have no idea when or if I will return to more singing.

 6. Water is my happy place.  I’m not really into traditional swimming, (lengths and things like that), but I adore being in a lake, an ocean, even a pool if need be.  I love just swimming around on my own, feeling the currents, or looking at the bottom.  I still dream about one entire day we spent snorkeling in Thailand with the brilliant fish, and fantastical corals.  I hope Heaven looks like the ocean there.

7. I gave birth to my children at home with no drugs.  Yep, I’m hardcore.  (Before I get too uppity, I’m just going to point out that women all over the world do this every day, some with no home at all.) Being in my home was no big deal of course by the time labour was in full swing, as any woman who has laboured could tell you.  I could have been in a burning barn, during a hurricane, attacked by rabid weasels, and I probably wouldn’t have cared.  The labours were not pain free, but the results were worth it.  I also gave birth in water, so that probably helped me a lot.  Ask our downstairs neighbor at the time, how exciting it was for him all night.   He did send the biggest bouquet…

And in turn I am now passing on the Beautiful Blogger award to others:

a) Practically Intuitive

Lisa is a beautiful old soul and I love her.  I also love her work, as I have had her read for me, and cut cords all with excellent results.  She has such a beautiful way with those she reads for.  She is funny, profound, nurturing and pretty much just fantastic all the way around.  She has such easy and deep connection to the spiritual realm, that I know she will be famous before long.

b) Hippy Urban Girl

Darlene took the fabulous photos of me that are in my blog headers.  She made me feel so beautiful that day, from the way she made me look in the photos she took of me.  It took days to wear off!

Darlene transmits her beautiful, soulful vision of the world, through the lens of her camera.   A quote on Darlene’s Facebook page sums up how she wants to make people feel with her photos: “When people look at my pictures I want them to feel the way they do when they want to read a line of a poem twice.” (Robert Frank)  And her photos do this for the viewer.

c) Image Maya

Mark creates amazing, beautiful, psychedelic shamanistic images.  I never get tired of looking at them, and sometimes they almost make me cry I find them so beautiful.  The first time I looked at his images, I was shocked that someone could so skillfully bring what it looks like in the shamanistic world, into this “real” world.  Anyone who can bring the unseen world into the real world is an artist magician.

Mark’s images are so chockful of visual information that they are each like self-contained histories of the mysteries of life.  He made a spirit image for me that hangs in my house, and fills me up with beauty for me every single time I look at it.

d) What’s Your Sign

This is Avia Venefica’s main site on symbolism.  From her amazing headers which show her (a gorgeously, striking woman) to the beautiful, artful way she explains symbolism, I fell in love with her numerous sites.  I first discovered her websites when I was researching power animal symbolism on-line. Her related websites are amazingly rich resources on symbolism, and her personal work with symbolism is so thoughtful and soul-satisfying.  She has given me so much soul nourishment with her words, and beautiful images.

e) Creative Numerology

I have had no acquaintance yet with Christine Delorey, the creator of this site, but I want to share the beautiful wisdom of her site with others.  Her weekly and yearly numerological insights are always profound, and are accurate.  I have learned alot about the energy of numbers from her site, and continue to go there often.  Her site fills me up with the beauty of the hidden infrastructure of the numbers behind the scenes.

Thanks to all of you for filling the world with the beauty you create bearing the stamp that is uniquely you.  May you continue to create for as long as it fulfills you (to quote Patti).

Please share these beautiful links with others.  May Beauty continue to shine!!

Beautiful comments are welcome below.

Need an inner beauty tune-up?  I am as close as an email, and I have 3 spots left for readings this month, conduitofjoy@hotmail.com.

We Can Do It

Have you always….

…wanted to express your soul gifts?

…do something that makes a difference in the world?

…share your talents with the world?

If you have, give yourself a gift this New Year. Commit to one these heart’s desires right now, this second.   Without thinking too much about it, write down in one sentence your heart’s desire for 2011.

Congratulations!  You have taken your first step towards achieving that desire.

But sometimes it’s lonely and scary to think about something you want so much, let alone how you will get there.  The good news is you are not alone. By writing down your heart’s desire you have enlisted the help of the Universe, you have put your intention to be supported.

Once you have expressed your desire, the Universe is on stand-by to give you support.  It does not even matter if you fully believe you yourself can do what you wrote down. It does not matter if you have the skills to do it yet. Once it is intended, it will be supported.

So now you have the Universe as a partner to make things happen.  I can be your second partner.  I can help you in a very specific and practical way, (since I also happen to be part of the Universe).

I can ask your guides for the next best step for you, with your existing skills and talents. A reading can indicate which path will be the easiest for you. If you have a few options to choose from, a reading can indicate which one holds the most opportunity for you at the present time.

The journey of a thousand miles begins with one small step, and I can help you start that journey, by making it easier for you.

Once you know the easiest first step, it will be easier for you figure out the second step, which will lead you to doing the third step, and so on. Before you know it you will have the confidence of four or five steps behind you and it will get easier and easier for you to keep going.

Plus, since you have asked for Universal help, the more you do for yourself, the more actions you take to get there, the more support you will receive.  Events will begin to conspire in your favour and help will be offered in many forms along the way.

It’s exciting to get started, and even more exciting to be on the path leading to that heart’s desire.

Enjoy your evening and have a very Happy New Year!

Embrace Hibernation!

The Bad Side of Feeling Too Much
I always knew that the holiday season was a terrible time for me emotionally, but I never completely realized what it was about until this Christmas. I have just recently identified as an empath. I have known my whole life my body “knew” things, but not until recently I did realize that being an empathic is a specific type of psychic skill.

While there are many different types of clairsentient empathy, my particular kind means that every single day, my body functions like a big emotional lint collector for everyone around me. This means without even trying, whatever other people feel when I am around them gets collected by my body. This clogs me up emotionally and physically. Until recently I didn’t realize this was happening to me. I didn’t realize that I needed to constantly get rid of this psychic lint for my own mental health.  (I just started an on-line course with Colette Baron-Reid called “Weight-Loss for People Who Feel Too Much” and it has been very enlightening so far…I’ll keep you posted on how it goes.)

Now I wouldn’t trade the empathic part of me for anything. After all, it tunes me into what people are feeling, and I like that. But I have only recently realized what a huge emotional and physical toll this takes on me. I’m still learning how to consciously deal with processing and protecting myself from these negative aspects of my body empathy. So while I think this Christmas will start to be different from ones in the past, it’s still not going to be a walk in the park.

One thing I have chosen to make a priority this year, is to respect my body more.

Traditionally at Christmas I have violated my own physical, financial and emotional boundaries. I overeat, I overspend, and I subject myself to people I don’t like “in the spirit of the season”. When you add the heightened emotions of everyone at Christmas, it means that often Christmas isn’t very merry for me.

Taking care of yourself last is apparently a common empathic symptom. While I can’t fix everything all at once, I have decided to start by respecting my physical boundaries as much as I can this Christmas. And hibernation looks very attractive.

Go Inside, Literally and Figuratively
In addition to my new awareness of my emotional needs, I already feel slower this Christmas. I feel slower than possibly any other year in recent memory. I feel like a sloth-like bear, who needs to wind-down her movements to match the darkness and the cold. I need to spend time resting in my basement, surrounded by the absorbing qualities of earth. I need the stillness and the neutrality.

I’m trying to be okay with that. I am consciously giving myself permission to do this. It brings me joy to be able to respect my physical limits, because of my history of repeatedly ignoring my physical limits at Christmas. I’m telling myself that it’s okay for me to come home and hibernate. I know that in the long run, this will energize me to go out.

In the past, when my intellect was predominantly in control of my life, I have been afraid of slowing down. I was afraid that if I allowed myself to slow and sometimes stop completely, that I would never be active and productive again. My mind was afraid that “I” would be lost. But I discovered that was a big lie of my mind, to not listen to my wise body. From experience, I learned that just like the natural landscape, it is absolutely necessary for me to slow down in order to survive.

I have learned, that as long as I listen to my intuition, that I will always move through whatever cycle I am in. I have also learned the hard way, that the more I resist my intuitive nudges, the worse I will end up feeling.

I have learned that without rest and stopping, there is no rejuvenation. I have learned that without a break, there is no way to start afresh. I have learned that without reflection and analysis, there are no real realizations or breakthroughs.

It hard to do this when it conflicts with the Christmas social calendar, but the results of not doing it, are worse.

So I’ve embraced hibernation. Reassuringly, my northern landscape almost demands it of my body, whether my mind agrees or not.

I invite you to surrender to whatever cycle you body is telling you, you are in. You don’t have to be an empath in order to suffer from the holiday season!  It is always the best idea to listen to your body wisdom not matter who you are.  While it might be challenging at this busy time of year, sometimes you just have to go with what feels good and right.

Enjoy listening to your body!!
